Brief

Head of Technical Compliance needed for a well-known Facilities Management organisation based in either their London, Birmingham or Manchester office who are looking to employ an experienced and well-rounded Head of Technical Compliance that takes pride.

The successful candidate must have a minimum of 5 to 7 years of experience in technical compliance, quality assurance, or regulatory management. As well as this my client is looking for candidates with eexperience in managing compliance for technical projects, especially in construction, sustainability and energy sectors.

What the role entails:

The Head of Technical Compliance will be responsible for overseeing and ensuring that all projects, processes, and operations are compliant with industry standards, regulatory requirements, and company policies. This role will manage the Technical Governance Committee, the technical compliance framework, conduct audits, and provide guidance to teams to ensure legal, technical, and operational compliance across all technical activities.

Some of the main duties of the Head of Technical Compliance will include:

Compliance Management:

  • Lead the development, implementation, and maintenance of a comprehensive technical compliance program across all projects and operations.
  • Oversee compliance with duties under the Building Safety Act, including those related to higher-risk buildings, competence requirements, and the golden thread of building information.
  • Ensure that design and construction activities comply with the Building Regulations 2010, including amendments such as the Building Regulations etc. (Amendment) (England) Regulations 2023.

Risk Management & Mitigation:

  • Develop and maintain a compliance risk register, ensuring that high-risk issues are prioritised and mitigated.
  • Identify, assess, and manage risks associated with technical compliance, ensuring all relevant risks are documented and addressed.
  • Support project teams in identifying compliance risks early in the project lifecycle and recommend corrective actions to ensure compliance.

Documentation and Reporting:

  • Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation, including compliance reports, audit findings, and corrective action plans.
  • Prepare reports and presentations for senior management on the status of technical compliance and areas requiring improvement.
  • Ensure that compliance documentation is updated regularly and readily accessible for review by internal and external auditors.

Continuous Improvement:

  • Continuously assess and improve the technical compliance processes, procedures, and tools to ensure efficiency, effectiveness, and alignment with best practices.
  • Promote a culture of compliance awareness within the company through training and development of staff on regulatory, technical, and safety standards.
  • Conduct training sessions and workshops to increase awareness of compliance requirements across technical and project teams.

What experience you need to be the successful Head of Technical Compliance:

  • Minimum of 5 to 7 years of experience in technical compliance, quality assurance, or regulatory management.
  • Experience in managing compliance for technical projects, especially in construction, sustainability and energy sectors.
  • Solid knowledge of relevant regulatory frameworks and industry standards (e.g., ISO 9001, ISO 14001, CIBSE, Building Regulations, etc.).

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, Construction Management, or related technical field
  • Relevant professional certifications (e.g. NEBOSH, or similar) are desirable.
  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or equivalent is an advantage
