Autism Learning Assistant

Are you passionate about supporting neurodiverse students in a dynamic and fast-paced school environment?

We are seeking a resilient, compassionate, and proactive Autism Learning Assistant to join a mainstream secondary school in North West London that supports students with a wide range of needs, including autism and social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) challenges.

The Role:

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support for students with autism, helping them access the curriculum and manage transitions throughout the school day
  • Work closely with teaching staff to adapt lesson materials and create a supportive learning environment
  • Support students with emotional regulation, sensory needs, and social communication
  • Help implement EHCP targets, behaviour plans, and autism-specific strategies
  • Liaise with parents, SENCOs, and external professionals to ensure consistent support
  • Maintain accurate records of progress and incidents, contributing to reviews and planning
Preferred requirements:
  • Experience supporting students with autism, ideally in a secondary or SEN setting
  • Strong understanding of autism spectrum conditions and associated needs (e.g. anxiety, sensory processing, communication)
  • Ability to remain calm, patient, and consistent in challenging situations
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • A commitment to safeguarding and inclusive education
  • Knowledge of autism strategies such as TEACCH, PECS, Zones of Regulation, or similar (desirable)
