Job Overview We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Operating Department Practitioner (ODP) to join our dynamic healthcare team. The ODP plays a crucial role in the surgical environment, providing high-quality care and support to patients undergoing surgical procedures. This position requires a strong commitment to patient safety, teamwork, and effective communication within the operating theatre.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and maintain the operating theatre before, during, and after surgical procedures.
  • Assist in the administration of anaesthesia and monitor patients' vital signs throughout surgery.
  • Collaborate with surgeons, anaesthetists, and nursing staff to ensure optimal patient care.
  • Maintain sterile conditions and adhere to infection control protocols at all times.
  • Provide emotional support and reassurance to patients pre- and post-operatively.
  • Participate in the cleaning and sterilisation of surgical instruments and equipment.
  • Document patient care activities accurately in accordance with hospital policies.
  • Engage in continuous professional development to enhance skills and knowledge within the field.

Skills

  • Strong understanding of surgical procedures and anaesthesia techniques.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • High level of attention to detail, ensuring compliance with safety standards and protocols.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and manage challenging situations effectively.
  • Strong organisational skills with the capability to prioritise tasks efficiently.
  • Empathy and compassion towards patients, demonstrating a patient-centred approach to care.
  • Proficiency in using medical equipment relevant to the operating theatre environment.
