About the Role:

The London Borough is preparing to present their local development plan to the full council to obtain authority to submit it for examination. The examination process would commence immediately upon submission, with hearings likely starting in September. This role is essential to guide this plan through the examination phase successfully. The position reports to the Director of Planning and Development and requires close collaboration with a dedicated team of officers and principals.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Leading the examination process of the local development plan
  • Managing the policy team and enabling them to fulfil their potential
  • Handling the high affordable housing target within the plan and navigating political sensitivities
  • Presenting and defending the local plan to the inspector, mayor, and key stakeholders
  • Providing expert comments and guidance on transport planning applications
  • Ensuring all examinations and hearings are conducted efficiently and effectively
  • Engaging with various political and community stakeholders
Job Requirements:
  • Experience in policy development and planning policy
  • Previous experience of successfully leading an Examination in Public (EIP)
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire and manage a team
  • In-depth knowledge of transport planning principles
  • Political astuteness with excellent presentation skills
  • Ability to manage and resolve complex planning issues
  • Effective communication and stakeholder management skills
