To lead on key aspects of the GeMS service, specifically cryopreservation, rederivation and gene delivery, working with skill and initiative, directing the work of others, setting standards for outcome and performance, troubleshooting, monitoring and improving procedures, to achieve the delivery of a specialist service, in support of scientific research at the Crick.To assist the Head of GeMS and GeMS Senior Managers in overseeing GEMS projects, working to deadlines, ensuring researchers are kept updated throughout.To look beyond the immediate work focus and show appreciation of the wider team objectives, collaborating across other work areas, undertaking reasonable work requests and when required participating in essential out of hour rota's, ensuring effective service delivery.Training, developing and motivating staff to achieve overall best practice standards. Working to agreed protocols and operating in a culture of innovation to work to achieve and exceed the service's goals, and enhance collaborations, while at all times being conscious of resourcing constraints and acting to achieve value for money.To review and update relevant documents where required, e.g., SOPs, COSHH, Risk assessments.To have awareness and application of all relevant health and safety legislation.

About the RoleApplications are sought for a Quality Assurance Manager to focus on the quality assurance of all activities of the Breast Cancer Now Biobank (BCNB) at the Barts Cancer Institute (BCI) then expanding to other national BCNB collection sites. They will work with BCI BCNB Leads to realise the objectives and development of robust internal and external quality management systems. About YouEssential requirements for this post include a degree in a relevant biological subject along with a valid Good Clinical Practice course certificate. An appropriate experience with biobanking would be a strength. A demonstrated ability to communicate well, work within a team and maintain good records are also essential. Particular qualities required include conducting audits, quality controls and quality assurance checks, statistical analysis, generation of reports and interpretation of results in relation to consenting, sample acquisition, shipping, storage and distribution as well as generation of standard operating procedures. About the School/Department/Institute/ProjectBCNB is the UK's first national breast cancer biobank, providing access to the largest collection of longitudinal biospecimens and data from breast cancer patients and individuals without the disease at various stages of the care pathway. BCI, the coordinating site of BCNB, is a Cancer Research UK Centre of Excellence whose work aims to transform the lives of those with and at risk of cancer through innovative research in the laboratory, in patients and in populations. BCI is internationally renowned in many areas of cancer research and it combines ground-breaking basic research with the expertise of scientists and clinicians from Barts NHS Trust to achieve improvements in cancer patient care. BCI is also a partner in the CRUK City of London Major Centre (together with UCL, Kings and the Francis Crick Institute) which is a Centre of Excellence in Biotherapeutics.
